Where does the Easter tradition come from?

The custom of baking Easter lamb has its origins in Christianity. The lamb symbolizes Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God who died for the sins of humanity. The Easter lamb therefore stands for new life and resurrection.

Even in the Middle Ages it was customary to bake a lamb for Easter. At that time, however, the lamb was still made from yeast dough and was more like bread than cake. Over time, the Easter lamb developed into a sweet pastry that is now available in many different variations. Whether classic with vanilla flavor, as an eggnog cake or as a quick carrot cake without grating - the Easter lamb is a popular symbol of Easter and is one of the favorite Easter traditions in Germany and many other countries. Thanks to the fluffy cake, even a sustainable Easter celebration doesn't require any real lamb.
