Former students of Notre-Dame de Bétharram, near Pau, took legal action to denounce years of bullying. 33 former students filed a complaint for physical and sexual violence.
They described a climate of "terror" which reigned behind the walls of the imposing building. A preliminary investigation by the Pau prosecutor's office has been launched. The private Catholic establishment for boys was created in 1837 on the banks of the Gave de Pau, Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
