The arrested person, who goes by the nickname Juan Diablo, is involved in kidnappings, extortion, torture, and rape. The courts of the American country demand a sentence of 42 years in prison for him.

Juan Diablo's violent and dangerous profile accelerated efforts to find his whereabouts. He was finally located in the Alicante municipality of Dénia. After the arrest, he was transferred to Madrid and placed at the disposal of the Central Investigative Court as guard of the National Court. A 1999 soap opera had among its protagonists a character nicknamed with the same name and who achieved great fame. The protagonist is a young criminal who was part of an international gang of thieves and decides to avenge the death of a friend by killing the leader of the organization. Its members are allegedly related to the murder of Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, which occurred last August. The gang of Los Lobos is also linked to the disappearance of several people in Tuluá, in the southwest of Colombia.
