The provincial Minister of Health, Ariel Varela, justified the measure due to the "very critical situation" that the health system is going through. A similar measure came into effect in Salta in March.

The measure establishes that foreigners who go to public hospitals in the province will be subject to a charge of 50% of the nomenclature value. It is expected that in the coming days the authorities will sign the resolution and publish it in their official bulletin. "We are already in that discussion, we implemented a new hospital card where there are certain requirements, and we have to cover the needy who really need it," said the provincial minister of health, who added that the priority is to guarantee the care of local residents. "They have cut us on medicines, the province has to go out and buy 16 thousand liters of milk, and in increasing supplies, there is an increase of 239%," the official said in a local media interview. "The health system cannot continue to sustain a load that exceeds its financial capacity," he said.
