Salman Rushdie was seriously injured in an assassination attempt in August 2022. His book under the title “Knife” is scheduled to be published worldwide in German and English in 2023.

The publisher's statement states that it was necessary for him to write the book. It was his way of coming to grips with what was happening and responding to violence with art, the publisher says. The author will be awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade at the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 20th. The laudatory speech will be given by the writer Daniel Kehlmann, whose novel “Lichtspiel” will be discussed in the program “The Literary Quartet” on October 13th.
